چکیده

The application of the concept of linear cryptanalysis to the domain of key-less primitives is largely an open problem. In this paper we, for the first time, propose a model in which its application is meaningful for distinguishing block ciphers. Combining our model with ideas from message modification and reboundlike approaches, we initiate a study of cryptographic primitives with respect to this new attack vector and choose the lightweight block cipher PRESENT as an example target. This leads to known-key distinguishers over up to 27 rounds, whereas the best previous result is up to 18 rounds in the chosen-key model.

Known-Key Distinguishers for Some Block Ciphers

We present two block cipher distinguishers in a setting where the attacker knows the key. One is a distinguisher for AES reduced the seven rounds. The second is a distinguisher for a class of Feistel ciphers with seven rounds. This setting is quite different from traditional settings. We present an open problem: the definition of a new notion of security that covers attacks like the ones we pre...

Total break of Zorro using linear and differential attacks

An AES-like lightweight block cipher, namely Zorro, was proposed in CHES 2013. While it has a 16-byte state, it uses only 4 S-Boxes per round. This weak nonlinearity was widely criticized, insofar as it has been directly exploited in all the attacks on Zorro reported by now, including the weak key, reduced round, and even full round attacks. In this paper, using some properties discovered by Wa...

Integral and Multidimensional Linear Distinguishers with Correlation Zero

Zero-correlation cryptanalysis uses linear approximations holding with probability exactly 1/2. In this paper, we reveal fundamental links of zero-correlation distinguishers to integral distinguishers and multidimensional linear distinguishers. We show that an integral implies zero-correlation linear approximations and that a zero-correlation linear distinguisher is actually a special case of m...

Rotational-XOR Cryptanalysis of Reduced-round SPECK

In this paper we formulate a SAT/SMT model for Rotational-XOR (RX) cryptanalysis in ARX primitives for the first time. The model is successfully applied to the block cipher family Speck, and distinguishers covering more rounds than previously are found, as well as RX-characteristics requiring less data to detect. In particular, we present distinguishers for 10, 11 and 12 rounds for Speck32/64 w...

Applying MILP Method to Searching Integral Distinguishers Based on Division Property for 6 Lightweight Block Ciphers

Division property is a generalized integral property proposed by Todo at EUROCRYPT 2015, and very recently, Todo et al. proposed bit-based division property and applied to SIMON32 at FSE 2016. However, this technique can only be applied to block ciphers with block size no larger than 32 due to its high time and memory complexity. In this paper, we extend Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) ...
